Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
We are responsible for the safety of our employees and are fully committed to providing a safe and unpolluted working environment that meets the most stringent international benchmarks. Our goal is to achieve leadership in safety and occupational health standards in the regions in which we operate by fostering a culture of 'zero accidents' at all of our production facilities.
We have integrated this goal into our corporate values, and into the programs and policies of each of our businesses, joint ventures and on our production facilities. Safety is considered an integral part of quality control, cost reduction and efficiency, and we are committed to providing resources to enable this.
Our corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policy is based on the following principles:
- Identification and evaluation of all HSE hazards or aspects and the management of their risks or impacts to acceptable levels
- Compliance with all applicable HSE legislation
- Prevention of accidents, injuries and pollution
- Intolerance of the conditions and behaviors that contribute to incidents or injuries
- Reduction of waste and conservation or resources
- Recording and communicating HSE performance throughout the company
- Continual improvement of HSE performance
OCI N.V.’s management upholds these principles and the management and supervisory personnel at each business unit and location is responsible for implementing and maintaining an HSE management system necessary to ensure compliance with these principles.
Safe production facilities
We are committed to ensuring the occupational health and safety of all individuals at our production sites, as well as each facility's surrounding neighborhood. To prevent accidents, we manage safety in a systematic and standardized way with clear rules and procedures based on global best practices and the OCI N.V. HSE Policy.
Each facility further implements tailored initiatives to enhance their HSE standards depending on their specific needs and technologies.
We also implement wellness programs at our production facilities. A Fitness for Duty Process is set up to ensure that each employee is able to safely perform essential physical and mental requirements of the job without creating risk to themselves, others or the environment. A Health Risk Assessment Process is in place to estimate the nature and probability of adverse health effects to people by identifying the adverse health effects that can be caused by any exposure to any hazardous agent or the work environment.
We are committed to being an environmental steward by implementing the best technology available where applicable to minimize our environmental footprint and promote sustainable business best practices.
Our resolve to reduce our environmental impact as nitrogen-based fertilizer and chemicals producer is proven by our consistent reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions since 2009, despite adding several production facilities to our portfolio. We are committed to operate in accordance with applicable environmental laws and standards in the locations in which we operate. Our facilities are ISO certified and hold REACH registration certificates from the European Chemicals Agency, ensuring a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.
We are committed to consistently meet or exceed customer expectations in nitrogen-based fertilizer or industrial chemical product performance, service and delivery. We promote continuous improvement of customer satisfaction by maintaining and reviewing the quality and environment system on a regular basis.
Our management system and procedures exist to ensure that all the requirements needed to attain quality improvement are met.
